Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Red-necked Grebe
To follow up on the Red-necked Grebe, we live super close to where it was hanging out today, so we were able to quickly jump on the job when we heard it was back.

We have a garage here with two single kayaks, and one double kayak. Anyone is welcome to borrow them if you email me and set up a time. We also have stand-up paddle boards, but that might be risky with binoculars!

Anyway, contact me if you’d like to come borrow kayaks - the bird is (at least today) really not that far away. It would be good if you were sure you’re real steady on a kayak! We’re near the very end of Rosecrans about a block from the entry to the Naval Submarine Base. The bird has been known in past years to cross over to the east side of Shelter Island as well. I’m sure we’ll all keep getting reports.

Love, Kris

One thing is that the Navy does keep an eye on their restricted areas, so, it’s good to observe all the “stay back” signs and there are ways to get around the Navy stuff for a peek into their waters.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
