Hi All, While conducting surveys of Charleston Slough in Shoreline wt Mountain view today I had the following highlights:
21 ELEGANT TERNS, first heard over California Gull nesting colony then they flew right past me heading south over A1 then 15 mins later heading north to colony but kept flying north. Probably birds of Ravenswood colony or heading that way. Best bird of the day.
A hybrid BLUE-WINGED TEALxNORTHERN SHOVELER in the NE corner
An adult BALD EAGLE
2 VAUX'S SWIFTS AND 2 WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS in a large swallow flock.
49 SEMIPALAMATED PLOVERS
A CLARK'S GREBE AND WESTERN GREBE associating
18 BLACK SKIMMERS on the island. A dramatic drop in numbers today. Out scouting? Left for Foster City? Foraging?
Some lingering ducks included 4 CANVASBACKS AND a LESSER SCAUP.
The shorebirds were stunning in their breeding plumage (LESA, DUNL, WESA, WILL..).
