Hi Naomi,
I hope this finds things going well on your end. It’s so nice to hear all those birds. I’ve had a flock of Pine Siskins in my backyard most of the winter. If I had to surmise why they are so abundant, I would believe it’s related to the vastness of the white pine cones. I don’t think I’ve experienced the number I’ve seen wherever I look. Last year the pitch just dripped from the trees, almost as if they were crying. It’s so interesting.
The reason I’m connecting with you pertains to doing bird surveys the park service does through the Inventory and Monitoring Program. Roosevelt/Vanderbilt National Historic Site is seeking volunteers to do some of their surveys. The surveys are all done in June and each route is done only once. You or someone in your world might be interested. The surveys usually take 4 to 5 hours. If there is any interest let me know and I will connect you with the program manager.
