Margie & I went to shorebird school today at Four Rivers. We identified nine first of the year species, including House Wren, Black-bellied Whistling Duck (Jack Henry pond in Monett), Least Sandpiper, Smith's Longspurs, Cattle Egret, Willit, Lark Sparrow, and American Avocet. The Avocet and Willit were in Unit 1, Pool 2B, which was loaded with many Yellowlegs and Pectorals, some Baird's and Semipalmated Sandpipers. Could have spent hours just in that pool if a person wanted to pick through all the feathers. Thousands of birds in that pool.

The two Cattle Egrets were in Unit 2, pool 7S. Not a cow one to be seen anywhere. Crazy.

Searched for Upland Sandpipers in the Lockwood / Golden City area, but did not find any. Indian Paintbrush and Wild Indigo blooming on the prairies.
