Crested Caracara (Caracara plancus) (1)
- Reported Apr 11, 2024 08:45 by Armando Aispuro
- Coal Oil Point, Devereux Beach, Sands Beach, and bluff trails, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.8783064&<ll...>,-119.8783064 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S168140889 - Comments: "I was in the COPR yard and a large bird flew over the greenhouse near the point. No binoculars, but I could tell it was not an osprey by its large light colored bill and striking white wing tips. At this point I also considered it could be a bald eagle. One minute later, now with binoculars, I had excellent looks at it flying slightly above eye level around Coal Oil Point. Most notable was its clean black cap in flight contrasting with its striking white neck and breast. I could also see its distinctive reddish-pink facial skin. It flew off east towards UCSB campus and I lost track of it in the dense fog. No photos unfortunately but I am confident in this identification."

Seen well through binoculars at about 50 feet distance. Gray-brown towhee slightly smaller than a California Towhee, rufous cap, white throat, dark whisker marks, and a faint greenish wash on the wings."

- Comments: "Refound by Alex Castlestein in the eucs across the street to the east. Then spotted again briefly around 10am in the eucs to the west. Each time it made a rattle/clatter type call that clued us in. The Hooded Orioles seemed to be chasing it a bit."

Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula) (1)
- Reported Apr 11, 2024 08:27 by Alex Castelein
- UCSB--campus, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.8450041&<ll...>,-119.8450041 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S168142949 - Media: 3 Photos
- Comments: "Continuing today, and got photos with my camera this time. Found it as it got chased out of a bottlebrush by a hooded oriole and into the eucs, where it rattled off a little. Again the chatter was distinctive of ‘Northern Oriole’, not like Hooded/Orchard. Got Steve and Sue on it and they probably have better photos"
