Date: 4/9/24 7:26 pm From: Edge Wade <1edgewade...> Subject: Re: Warblers & Whip-poor-will: Eclipse report from the St. Francois Mountains
What a memorable experience, Joanna!
Three Columbia birders were among about a dozen like-minded folk at a home
in Oregon County for the eclipse after visiting Eleven Point SP which was
open for the day for eclipse viewing and learning plans for developing the
park.
As the eclipse began, we were hearing a dozen or so Purple Martins
vocalizing frequently as they flew around, feeding. Other birds could be
heard now and then, especially woodpeckers and Yellow-rumped Warblers.
As the eclipse progressed, the martins grew silent, and all was quiet
during the totality, except for one crow that seemed to be saying, "What?
What?" Then, in the distance, one Barred Owl called.
