Hello Friends,

With a new year afoot, it may be a nice time to review the ABA's Code of Birding Ethics. It is a short read and full of great reminders - no matter your experience level. You can find it at the following link: https://www.aba.org/aba-code-of-birding-ethics/

Health, Happiness, and Harpy Eagles to all,

Lindsay Willrick
Golden Hill, San Diego

PS: My broad-billed hummer female continues, so happy to have hosted her for a second year.
PSS: Heading to Panama in 10 days for Harpy Eagle!! Eek!

I hope this is just fake news. If in fact it’s true, I hope the guilty ones are cursed by never seeing another life bird.

(Administrator: please remove this if inappropriate. It’s written in frustration and not a little bit of anger after three unsuccessful days staring at stagnant water and a ton of dead leaves.)

I am not surprised it is MIA, as I heard yesterday people jumped over the fence and into the river bed in attempt to flush the bird.

Hi all,

I and a handful of others searched for the waterthrush on Monday morning, with no luck as of about 9am. The female Summer Tanager is still there.

The Louisiana Waterthrush continues this afternoon (1/5). It first appeared very briefly at 32.992635,-117.260650 before moving up the creek. It was last seen at about 14:15 right at the base of the Panera stairs. It is being quite vocal when it moves around, but it is being very skulky and only offering split-second views.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
