It was still nice out when I decided to see what was lingering near home. No eagle or phoebe and it wasn't until later that I saw a Flicker on the suet.

My wife, Lisa, woke me up at 4:00 this morning to hear two Barred Owls going nuts in the woods right behind our house! It's nice to have it warm enough this week that we can have our windows open to hear the night critters.

Spring is coming finally. We had Harbinger of Spring in bloom the other day. This was one of the latest bloom dates we have had
I thought I heard a Phoebe yesterday and have been hearing frogs as well as a Barred Owl a couple of days ago.. This is my list from recently while working around the yard.

Counted birds at Jack’s house in northern Lawrence County for a couple hours today. The pair of Hooded Mergansers that visited his pond on Monday, March 3, were a no-show while I was there today—but, I did see a female Purple Finch at his feeders. See complete list below.

Mostly the usual suspects in my yard throughout February into the beginning of March. Can’t seem to get more than 19 species per day. If only the Black Vultures who appeared on March 2 or the wren on March 3 had been around when I was counting on March 1.
Bluebirds visited my suet a few times. As did a Pileated Woodpecker on February 15. Although I occasionally see a Pileated Woodpecker in the neighborhood, the February visit is only the second time I recall one at my feeders (since November 2023).
A female Red-bellied Woodpecker visited the feeders a few times last month. It’s usually only the male that I see. I first saw the female on February 16 . . . the same day on which a goldfinch and grackle made an appearance at the feeders—neither of which I’ve seen for a while.
All birds reported below were at my home—except for the SACRs seen at Bryan Park on February 7.
