We traveled to the Belle Fourche Reservoir today for birding but found the entire body of water iced over. There was lots of ice fishing activity on the ice complete with 4-wheelers and UTV's. The diversion canal was also iced over. We did find a small flock of birds feeding on the ice off shore from the RV area, but by the time I got the scope out and setup they had flown. Donna thought they might have been plovers.
Our feeders 1.5 south of Whitewood are very active as we have over a foot of snow on the ground. At times we have 30+ Juncos, 20+ House Finches, 30 Turkeys, a dozen Blue Jays plus normal numbers of other winter species. Our only new recent sighting was a Bald Eagle flying by on January 7th.
