Subject: [CT Birds] Blustery Stratford Highlights
Today was the day Peter and I had available to bird before the spring
semester starts, so we embraced our northern roots and bundled up and
headed to Stratford. There were lots of ducks at Frash Pond, including 3
Ruddy Ducks and the continuing drake Canvasback. Long Beach produced a FOY
Northern Harrier but otherwise just the expected gulls and ducks (and lots
of wind!). The Lordship Seawall was similar but we did get a flyby from an
Iceland Gull. At Short Beach park we found a Eurasian Wigeon among the many
American Wigeon, and were surprised by a couple of Killdeer along the
shoreline. We were lucky to run into Linda Olsen who tipped us off to 3
Snow Geese on the golf course at the south end of the park. All in all a
great morning connecting with some not-so-easy-to-find species!
