Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] eBird rarity report confusion
Sometimes it is good to include known sex or age info with stakeout rarity eBird report documentation. More than writing just "continuing." This helps avoid confusion as to which bird is involved if more than one present, and may sometimes document an actual new bird appearing. There was a report yesterday of the "continuing" Neotropic Cormorant at Famosa Slough, and many other recent reports without photos say little about the age of the bird. But the one bird that has been there off-and-on for many months now has been an adult, and the particular report from yesterday contains photos which show an apparent immature Neotropic! There are both an immature male and a female Hooded Oriole at the Zoo parking lot, but most daily reports are just of one bird and just say "continuing." Same situation with the two or three Black Scoters near the Tijuana River mouth.

In miscellaneous bird news, a hybrid Townsend's X Hermit Warbler, present since mid-Dec, continues in Del Mar. And three more Western Tanagers, in southern La Jolla, adds a few more to the record-setting season total in the county.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
