My first bird of 2025 was a ruby-crowned kinglet hopping through the window box above my kitchen sink where I wasn't even thinking of birds as I had my first glass of water of 2025. It was quickly followed by my second bird of the year, a territorial Anna's hummingbird who felt the ruby-crowned had no business being so close to his sugar water feeder. I call it a good start to the year. -Mary
