From what I understand your best play is to show up around 8 or 9 am and
bring a scope. I believe the bird has been hanging out on the log boom at
the marina at that time and you should be able to scope it from the parking
lot. There is also a spot on Mission Beach road where you can pull over and
scope birds on the spit but local residents will get angry if you park in
the cul-de-sac at the end of that road. Apparently, the spit itself is
considered private property so walking on it is also a no-no.
