Subject: [cayugabirds-l] Snow geese
Fri. 20 Dec. 2024 Daughter Becky & I went  from Seneca Falls south to Ovid looking for snows. Saw none in any fields so I headed towards Cayuga Lake to Sheldrake where only  about 15 mallards were in the little cove. I then headed north for home.  Approaching Deans Cove from the south we saw what first appeared to be setting sun reflective glow over towards an area south of Aurora.  There in their usual safe spot, mid lake was a long, wide raft of several/many thousand snow geese, the first I've seen since last winter. We happily headed north from there.
Wind was keeping mallards, buffle heads, hooded & common mergansers, gadwall, a large number of coots, Canada geese & trumpeter swans close to the west shore at the south end of Cayuga Lake SP.  We've seen NO loons since just one last year.
