Date: 9/8/24 4:39 pm From: Don Gorney <in-bird-l...> Subject: [IN-BIRD-L] Ft. Harrison SP, 9/8, Canada Warbler, Veery, Gray-cheeked Thrush
Forty species were observed during the bird walk on September 8th at Ft. Harrison State Park, Indy. Highlights included 8 species of warblers with Canada Warbler and an adult male American Redstart being group favorites, a calling Veery that came out of hiding for us to see, and brief looks at a Gray-cheeked Thrush. Near the end of the walk, I heard a Scarlet Tanager singing near Delaware Lake but we did not see it. About five minutes later a grandfather-grandson duo came up to me to ask about the bird they just saw. Both had cameras and both obtained excellent photos of a molting adult male Scarlet Tanager. Presumably, it was the same bird I had heard, but they saw it and obtained amazing photos.
The complete list of birds observed is below. There will be a bird walk each Sunday in September and October at Ft. Harrison State Park. Meet at 8am at Delaware Lake parking lot.
