Subject: Red Slough Bird Survey - Sep. 4



It was overcast and mild with a slight wind and on and off light rain on the survey today. 59 species were found. Most notable highlights were a Wood Stork and two American Bitterns. Some birds seem to be leaving earlier this year than normal. There are a few active Cattle Egret nests in the heronry still and at least 3 young Anhingas still being fed and on the verge of fledging. I could not find any active cormorant nests and the two recently started new nests were abandoned. Lots of gallinule chicks everywhere of all sizes. Here is my list for today:
