Led by Hillary Siener, several of us counted 71 nighthawks moving south tonight, mainly in two groups. We also had a kestrel for the second day in a row and two merlins, and yesterday brought the first harrier. Our attention is clearly beginning to switch to raptor migration.
I haven’t posted in awhile, but we’ve been at it every night and hope to count through Friday. While we never hit 1,000 in a single night this year (at least we don’t think so!), an eight-day run of triple digit numbers 8/21-28 has helped us reach 4,375 currently. It’s been slowing down since then, as expected, but we haven’t been shut out yet.
