Subject: Swifts- Mercer County
Dear Ryan et al,
Lo and behold the swifts in Grove City have disappeared. Obviously they were here by the hundreds in Grove City through mid-August and then began to dissipate rapidly.
I watched last evening and zero, nada, zilch.
Fortunately I birded early in the day at Pensey Swamp and Celery Swamp from 7:15-10:30. Tallied 60 species including eleven species of warblers. Only six swifts during the three hour period.
The day before I saw a Great Egret at Shaner Road Swamp which is essentially off-limits, except from the main road.
The Mercer County swifts usually stay through early October. Maybe it's going to be a doozie of a winter. Just sayin'
