And New Hampshire birders thought it was a big deal last September when 8,600 nighthawks were counted in less than two hours one evening along the Pemigewasset River. (Well, it was a big deal, at least for New England.)
For all the destruction wrought by Canadian wildfires, I expect they have created a lot more open, bare-soil nesting habitat up north for the species.
