Date: 4/28/24 9:17 am From: Edge Wade <1edgewade...> Subject: Re: FOY Rose-breasted Grosbeak
I enjoyed two Rose-breasted Grosbeaks in my Columbia yard and at feeders on
April 23.
I, too, keep Merlin running to alert me to birds--especially valuable with
my highly compromised hearing.
However, unlikely to the absurd indications continue to occur. Yesterday
at Arrow Rock a loud persistent Tufted Titmouse was indicated by Merlin as
a Greater Yellowlegs.
Advice to all birders: Exercise common sense and develop your personal
skill set with experience in the field and learning from experienced
birders!
Merlin is a tool; not an infallible guru. Like any tool, it is the user
that makes the most of it...or not. A hammer, guided by an inexperienced
hand, is unlikely to hit the nail every time.
