Subject: [southbaybirds] Almaden Eagles, my day
A large flock of CEDAR WAXWINGS in a neighbors tree was a nice start to
my day for the Almaden Eagles Birdathon.

At Casa Grande Museum in New Almaden, my stake out PHAINOPEPLA was still
over Alamitos Creek. I had both HOODED and BULLOCKS ORIOLE, BROWN
CREEPER and other common residents here. HOUSE WRENS, BLACK HEADED
GROSBEAK and WESTERN FLYCATCHERS were heard along Alamitos Road. Almaden
Reservoir had little activity and Twin Creeks, not yet at its peak, was
also quiet.

I decided to drive up Mt. Umunhum Road to the Bald Mt parking lot. I
heard several BLACK THROATED GRAY WARBLERS along the way and picked up
CAL. THRASHER, WRENTIT and BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHER. I photographed an ASH
THROATED FLYCATCHER and BLACK THROATED GRAY WARBLER on the Mt. Umunhum
trail. My only CASSIN'S VIREO was singing at the intersection of Hicks
and Mt. Umunhum.

Yesterday I had a PILEATED WOODPECKER on Hicks Rd. at Rincon Creek but
not today. After lunch I checked on Ann Verdi who was wrapping up her
morning, then I quickly checked out the Calero Creek trail. It was
rather quiet at 1 pm but I added a few new birds, LARK SPARROW, AM.
GOLDFINCH and LAZULI BUNTING. A WESTERN FLYCATCHER posed nicely on a
log. Now how often does that happen?

I'd like to thank Ann Verdi who has led the Almaden Eagles since 1999.
