All, I would be reluctant to post such a species without the TWO photos I took of this bird in flight over the prairie. I've cursed at this camera all evening for now focusing on a flowers but it may have saved my life just now. Photos on checklist.
Large dark raptor being harassed by smaller raptor hawk/harrier sized. White rump patch similar to a harrier clearly visible as well as a large white wrist patch on each wing.
If I'm incorrect on this ID I apologize for sudden excitement, but if I'm correct I'll probably cry tears of joy.
