tide-receding, 55F, partly cloudy.
The center was swarming with visitors today and class visits. Beautiful
views on the marsh and of the shorebirds.
Our female osprey was on the nest all morning in incubation position. The
male visited several times and they watched as a third osprey briefly
circled overhead. About 100 Brant on the marsh and a flock flew overhead
in V formation. The Fish crows have been gathering nesting material and
building it in the large pine tree.
On the marsh: (viewed from inside building)- 5 American Oystercatchers
foraging on the mudflats, 2 Great Egrets, several Greater yellowlegs, 2
Red breasted mergansers, 5 American Black ducks, 6 Green winged teal flew
in, 2 D.C. Cormorants diving, 2 Canada Geese and 2 Mute swans.
On the grounds & feeders: The Fish crows, 2 robins, 2 Mourning doves,
several Eastern Towhees, at least 2 Ruby crowned kinglets, about 10 House
finches (one very vocal male), 1 Northern Mockingbird, 3 Juncos, several
Common Grackles, White throated sparrows, House sparrows, 1 Blue Jay, 2
Northern Cardinals, 1 Downy woodpecker, Red winged blackbirds, and 1 Crow
harassing a gull as I was driving in.
