The past few days have been active with spring activity. Lots of nesting birds utilizing the boxes along the creek trail including WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, and OAK TITMOUSE. Our first-of-season BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK showed up in the meadow yesterday. The WESTERN FLYCATCHERS along the creek have dropped in number from a high of six last week to just 4 yesterday. There are at least two WARBLING VIREOS around the compound. The HOODED ORIOLES seem stable at 3 individuals—2 males and one female.
The tan-striped WHITE-THROATED SPARROW is still visiting the feeder, but is shy compared to the other Zonos. No sign of Black-chinned Hummingbird yet, but we’ll keep searching.
