A marvelous observation, and got audio to boot!
Over the noon-hour, I sit and listen to the birds. There has been an alternating Brown thrasher and Northern mockingbird in the vicinity over the past several weeks, but today both birds were in the same barren tree within 3 feet of each other vocalizing the whole time. The mockingbird held the top, did one very short "flash-fly" in the air and then they vocalized over each other for nearly 10 minutes, but essentially ignored each other. No females in sight. Ran and got my video recorder but by the time I got back the thrasher had moved 50 feet away and the mockingbird stayed, and they continued vocalizing. Very, very cool! I will place it on my update list when I can!
