Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) (6) CONFIRMED

- Morro Bay harbor mouth, San Luis Obispo, California

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S168016726
- Comments: "One with white head with grey behind and below the eye. 1 had a dark head, with white eye patch. Saw 4 fly and land on the water at the N sand spit opposite target rock. Two went up on beach and returned to the water. All later seen on water between the finger and S jetties."

Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) (7) CONFIRMED
- Reported Apr 09, 2024 10:26 by Kevin Zimmer
- Morro Rock, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.8670566&<ll...>,-120.8670566
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S167966267
- Media: 7 Photos
- Comments: "All 7 birds were loafing on the north tip of the sandspit, opposite Morro Rock. I had heard of up to 5 individuals being seen at one time, but I am no aware of any documented sightings of this many Long-tailed Ducks at one time in Morro Bay. I will upload several record photos now, some showing all 7 birds, and others somewhat more cropped, showing part of the group. Both the distance (other side of the channel), and the harsh, late morning light, made for pretty challenging photographic conditions. Note that the photos showing only 4 birds, are isolating the 4 birds at the left side of the photos showing all 7 -- the 2 birds at the extreme left of these photos were the ones lying down with heads largely concealed in the first several photos."
