Hi all,
I spent some time between classes this morning checking out a few spots
close to campus; I particularly wanted to check out the conditions at Area
K and Areas L and M of the slough.
Both sections of the slough still have a lot of water and are holding a
good amount of waterfowl, the best of which were a couple each of
Blue-winged and Cinnamon teals.
At Area K, there was a female Black-and-white warbler in the oaks close to
the intersection of Ocean and Mesa. Also somewhat interesting were 7
Bonaparte’s gulls coming in to bathe, all 1st winters still in basic
plumage.
The water at Areas L and M is starting to get low enough for shorebirds,
with a couple leasts, killdeer, and stilts today. There was also a single
WF ibis.
A quick check at the beach park wasn’t too interesting, except for a flock
of about 75 Thalasseus terns, which was about 2 to 1 elegant to royal. Not
many gulls today.
