Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 6 hours
Official Counter: Fred Harrington
Observers:
Visitors: none
Weather: The count started with temperatures near 0 degrees C, very light NW winds, almost completely cloudy and with on/off periods of snow and/or rain. Temps raised to 4 degrees C and winds strengthened throughout the day. Light snow continued to fall periodically with short amounts of sun peaking out which corresponded to meager passing of TV's. The winds changed later in the afternoon to the N, and the flight moved inland.
Raptor Observations: 64 Turkey Vultures with one Red-tailed Hawk migrated. Also a local Red-tailed Hawk was present. The count took place on the main drive near the entrance to the cemetery, except for the last hour the count moved to Staub Drive as the directly N winds pushed the birds inland.
Non-raptor Observations: 15 species of birds. The highlights were two single appearances of a Common Raven chased by American Crows, and a pair of Killdeer running around on the flat roof of the neighboring building, possibly inspecting nesting site.
Predictions: Same NW winds as today, slightly warmer 4 - 8 degrees C, chance of morning rain with more sun in the afternoon. Maybe a bit better flight than today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Frederick Harrington (<harrinfe...>)
