Subject: [CT Birds] Re: bluebirds
While camping in Arkansas several years ago we had a feisty bluebird attacking his reflection in our camper window, to the point we hung a towel over it to keep him from hurting himself (and driving us crazy) I guess it’s a common behavior, esp during the run up to mating season.
Another good reason to not wash your car.

We've had Eastern Bluebirds nesting in our yard ever since I put up boxes 23 years ago, but for the first time this year a male is incredibly territorial flying up to our kitchen windows but even more so our car windows, attacking them and emptying his last meal, nonstop; he’s obviously seeing his reflection thinking it’s another male. I’m aware of other species having this early-in-the-season territorial behavior but never heard of Bluebirds doing it too. I hope he has this same feistiness when the House Wrens arrive and try to usurp him from the nest box as they so often do.

Our nesting male has been banging into our windows, which face the bluebird house, and then coming around and knocking at the front of the house as well--even at the front door when opened the inside door. I have hung paper and other things in the windows to no avail. My window clings fromo WBU I will have later today. We shall see if those work!
