Subject: [NHBirds] scaup challenge
If you are used to identifying your scaup by zip code, with 03833
(Exeter WTP) the address for Lesser Scaup, and 03840 (south side of
Great Bay) the address for Greater Scaup, then I offer up the
following challenge. There was a tight flock of 14 scaup in pristine
plumage today at 03032 (Massabesic). I dont often get to see a mixed
flock with birds freely mingling, and so this was a fun and
instructive exercise. For best viewing, Route 121 looking south into
the main body of the lake in the early morning or late evening. I
entered scaup sp. to not spoil the surprise for anyone taking up the
challenge.
