Subject: Upcoming Cheat Lake Waterfowl outing/slow morning at Cheat Lake
Hi all,

I did a quick tour around Cheat Lake (Mon. County) this morning at dawn
only to find a very quiet lake overall. Horned Grebe at Cheat Lake Park was
probably the most interesting migrant, but numbers and diversity were low.
Hopefully that will change next Saturday!

On Saturday, March 11, Mountaineer Audubon will sponsor a field trip around
Cheat Lake in search of migrant waterfowl. The meeting time will be 8 am at
Ruby and Ketchy's restaurant. I will be leading the outing and will be
there at 7am for breakfast in case anyone wants to eat and/or socialize a
bit before heading out. As long as it is safe to drive, the trip will go
regardless of weather. As always there is no cost to attend, and no RSVP is
required. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

It has been, in my opinion, a slow waterfowl migration thus far. So things
are bound to pick up! And, in neighboring Preston County, a very
frustrating report of West Virginia's first (pending acceptance) Tufted
Duck just came through on Saturday. So who knows what might turn up. Hope
to see you all there next weekend! Best wishes to you all.

Good birding,
Derek
