All,
Yesterday Jeff Marcus (Nature Conservancy Sandhills Field Office Director) found a Crested Caracara on a roadkilled deer along NC 20 between Raeford and St. Paul's. This would be around the Hoke and Robeson County line. He said it was about a mile west of the Lumber Bridge intersection.
When he stopped, it flushed into a nearby tree. He was able to get photos and video confirming it with his phone.
Anyone down that way should keep an eye out. It may well still be in the area.
Although not on the order of the Red-footed Booby yesterday in Wake County, this is a very rare find for North Carolina!
