A male Blue-winged x Cinnamon Teal hybrid was along the Goldenwest edge of Talbert Lake on the east side of Huntington Central Park this afternoon. My only previous encounter with this bird was on this same lake over two years ago. On that occasion, I speculated that it might be a second-year bird, in part due to some retained uppertail coverts. However, this bird also has retained uppertail coverts, as well as matching the previous bird in nearly all respects. Curious stuff.
