Subject: [CT Birds] Coastal Center
3/1 - Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. 10am-1PM. 33F-50F.
sunny, mid-tide, receding; some snow on ground from yesterday's storm.
Lots of young visitors today, enamored with our turtles and aquarium.
On the marsh: 22 American Black ducks, 20 Green winged teal, 1 Common
Loon, 3 Mute swans, Red breasted mergansers far out, 3 Killdeer scurrying
around, numerous gulls foraging as the tide receded. 1 Northern harrier
coasted over and 1 Cooper's hawk.
On the grounds, feeders & paths: 2 Northern Cardinals, 6 Mourning doves,
2 Song sparrows calling to each other across the yard, & 2 Carolina wrens
also calling, 15 House sparrows, 3 Common grackles, 2 Chickadees, 4 House
finches (3 male, 1 female)- very vocal, 2 White throated sparrows, 3
Starlings.
The grounds were teaming with birds singing.
