Since my post yesterday I have learned that what the park is doing is called land management. I know about prescribed burns to maintain grassland but in this case it was such a shocker to see nearly all vegetation gone. Too bad it has to be done this way since I am sure it will be years before the habitat returns to what it used to be like.
