Subject: [LACoBirds] SHORT-EARED OWL, Toyon Landfill Griffith Park
This morning, Greg Slak and I flushed one from the tall grass on the east slope of the landfill. It headed east towards the zoo but the habitat here is not bad so there is always a small chance it returns. If you wanted to try, perhaps the best bet would be at dusk/dawn and to park at Mineral Wells and walk up the very steep access road and position yourself somewhere along that road that gives you a broad view of the slope (34.147634, -118.301239) in case it comes back to hunt the slope.

FYI access to the very top field at the top of the landfill is now by permit only.
Best, Andy BirchLos Feliz
