Date: 3/28/21 6:43 am From: Bird observations from western New York <geneseebirds-l...> Subject: [GeneseeBirds-L] Hamburg Hawk Watch (27 Mar 2021) 281 Raptors
Hamburg Hawk Watch Hamburg, New York, USA Daily Raptor Counts: Mar 27, 2021 -------------------------------------------------------------------
Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 15:15:00 Total observation time: 7.25 hours
Official Counter: David Gordon
Observers: Jenny Bruce, Scott Diedrich
Visitors: Jenny Gorecki and Scott Wiese stopped by for a brief visit. Jenny Bruce and Scott Diedrich observed and helped with counting.
Weather: The day started cool and damp with cloudy skies and adverse wind direction. Conditions brightened by noon to encourage a fairly active and productive count day. The sky cleared and the wind blew favorably and brought along warm temperatures.
Raptor Observations: The weather conditions delayed the flight start but the Turkey Vultures and a good number of Red-tailed Hawks started flying by steadily at 11 EST. Proportionally smaller numbers of other raptors flew past also.
Non-raptor Observations: It was exciting to see a group of eight Great Blue Herons, flying in formation, pass by. Three Sandhill Cranes, mixed in with Canada Geese, looked awesome with great light falling on them. The day was accompanied by the constant singing of the seasonal birds.
Predictions: The March 28 forecast suggests rainy conditions throughout the day.
