All,
A few unconfirmed Curlew Sandpiper reports have been submitted to eBird recently from the Coal Oil Point area. You may have seen these in the recent RBA's. I think only two of these checklists contained photos and these were clearly Dunlin. Two separate Dunlin, in fact. One of them molting into alternate and showing black spots forming on the underparts which CuSa wouldn't show. The Curlew Sandpiper found last fall was last reported to eBird on 12/2/2020. It is highly unlikely that this bird remained in the area completely undetected. If you are in the Coal Oil Point area, sure, keep your eyes open, but if you think you have seen a CuSa please grab unequivocal photos. The message here is to prevent people from chasing something that is unconfirmed at this point and spreading misinformation.
