Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 7 hours
Official Counter: Sue Barth
Observers: Alec Humann
Visitors: Alec Humann, Scott Diedrich
Weather: 52°F (14.44C), clear and sunny, SW 9mph winds, to start. Temps reached 64°F (17.78C) by the last hour with hazy skies. Winds varied from SW to W to WSW, peaking at 17mph around 1pm.
Raptor Observations: Not nearly the flight we were expecting given the weather predictions. We had a moderate flight of TVs tallying over 500, 13 Red-tailed Hawks, 2 Red-shouldereds, 1 Cooper's Hawk, 4 Sharp-shinned, and 2 American Kestrels. The raptors stayed quite high most of the day with just a few exceptions. At one point, we switched to section H, only to quickly return to the front when Alec spotted a large group of TVs heading over that area.
Non-raptor Observations: 3 Great Blue Herons, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, a pair of Northern Flickers that engaged in a lovely courtship display, Tree Swallow, an Eastern Phoebe spotted by Alec, and an Eastern Meadowlark on the front lawn.<br /><br /><a href="https://ebird.org/atlasny/checklist/S84077652" title="eBird Checklist">eBird Checklist »</a>
Predictions: High wind warnings are in effect for tomorrow and, coupled with the predicted rain, the day will most likely result in a wash out. Saturday looks good. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sue Barth (<suebarth...>)
