Observation start time: 07:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 8 hours
Official Counter: David Brown
Observers: Bridget Watts, Daena Ford, Dominic Sherony, Greg Lawrence, Janis George, Jim Miles, Kyle Gage, Lynn Bergmeyer, Mike Tetlow, Nate Ukens, Pat Martin, Rosemary Reilly
Weather: Clear skies in the morning with strong southwest winds. A high cloud layer moved in throughout the day as the winds shifted west. A sudden shift to north winds at 2:20pm EST that ended the flight.
Raptor Observations: Good migration overall but maybe disappointing for those with high expectations. The flight was mostly high and over the mouth of the bay so we didn't get many great looks at birds. Highlights included 731 Turkey Vultures, 16 Bald Eagles, and 93 Red-tailed Hawks. One immature Golden Eagle and two light-morph Rough-legged Hawks.
Predictions: Friday: Steady morning rain. Windy with showers in the afternoon. Morning high of 16C falling to 6C. Winds SW at 40-55km/h gusting to 80km/h. Probably too much rain and wind for any real flight. Expect minimal migration.
Saturday: Intervals of clouds and sun. High 9C. Winds NNW at 10-15km/h. Expect light to moderate migration.
Sunday: Periods of rain. Winds SW at 30-50km/h. Good wind direction but rain will probably prevent a flight. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown (<davidebrownpa...>) Braddock Bay information may be found at: http://www.bbrr.org/
