Subject: [sbcobirding] Recent birds and wetland thoughts
All,

The two RN Grebes continue just W of Gaviota. One is now showing a red
neck. Lots of Common Loons off the Gaviota/Canada San Onofre area today,
with at least 60 present.

The wetlands around Goleta may get decent for shorebirds this spring.
Devereux has a moderate amount of water and is attracting 30-40 ducks and
will hopefully get a few shorebirds as migration ramps up. Area K is
shallow enough around the edges that it is attracting stilts and
dowitchers. Laguna Blanca looks great for shorebirds but only had a single
Greater Yellowlegs. I suspect the issue there and at Devereux is lack of
food as they were bone dry in late Jan. Hopefully the foodchain will build
up over the next 2-3 weeks.

Regards,
