A drake Eurasian Wigeon was found at Lock & Dam 14 today, Iowa side by the
Stonedahls. There is a backwater area where some resident Mute Swans are
typically seen along with other waterfowl. If you hike back into the public
area there is loop trail that goes around the outside of an island. Before
you get to the main part of that loop there is a small bridge and the bird
was found just off the bridge (to the right) with other dabblers. If you
park in the main park lot, follow signage until you get into the public
area (on the way to the viewing platform). Lots of construction back there
now, but access signage clearly marks the way to get back there. I’ll
attempt a map and attach it.
Map: Red “P” is parking, follow red trail, yellow circle on bridge, look in
direction of yellow arrow
I saw the bird around sunset in the same spot. Iowa #340!
