First seen sitting flush against the gravelly ground, big yellow eyes reflecting the headlights. Took off and flew around a bit and then landed again. Overall size similar to a Robin. Fairly sleek build, darkish gray/brown, didn't have the white primary patch or the long wings and very buoyant flight of a nighthawk. Flight was somewhat floppy."

- Comments: "Large billed kingbird, bright yellow from belly to breast, slight notch at end of tail. Was silent. In favored dead pine at SW corner of art building, 34.41171, -119.84992."

- Comments: "Female/immature-type bird calling from the top of a pine near the gate on the road to the summit, near (34.4954339, -119.7143202). At first I was confused by the similarity of the bird’s calls to those of the nearby Pygmy Nuthatches, but then I realized both species were in the area."
