- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S80162469
- Media: 1 Photo
- Comments: "Discovered by Linus Blomqvist. Seen swimming on the shore side of the kelp beds west of Campus Point. It appeared to be larger than an Eared or Horned Grebe with a thicker and longer bill, and a longer neck (though shorter than a Western or Clark’s Grebe). The neck was mostly dark, but with some white in front. The head was dark capped with whitish gray on the face, and the body was dark with lighter flanks."

- Reported Jan 30, 2021 08:04 by Linus Blomqvist
- Campus Pt., Santa Barbara, California

- Media: 2 Photos
- Comments: "Found SW of Campus Pt at about 9.10 and then slowly moved west. Seen by Dave Compton, John Callender, David Blue, and others. Grebe due to longish neck and long dagger-like bill; brown overall color and smaller size rules out loon. Compared to other grebes, substantially larger than Horned or Eared; gave the impression of being slightly smaller than Western, but this was probably mostly due to the shorter neck. Brown/gray back, grayish flanks, dark brown or blackish crown, whiteish breast. Side of neck was brown, and appeared to have a rusty hue. No clean white anywhere on neck or face like a Western or Clark's. Cheeks a smudgy, pale gray that contrasted with the darker brown crown and sides of the neck. Bill color was hard to judge in the light but seemed a dull olive. Some very poor photos attached. With varying light, angle, and sharpness, the photos are not all 100% representative of what I saw in the field, but they show the pale/gray cheek and the brown sides of the neck, among other things. John Callender's photos are a bit better."

- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.8481193&<ll...>,-119.8481193
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S80157380
- Comments: "Grebe larger and heavier billed than a Horned or Eared, similar in body size to a Western or Clark's, with shorter, heavier neck and slightly shorter bill. Overall relatively dark, with paler sides and pale area on face, lightest in the rear of the auriculars. Flat crown with peak near the rear of the head, but head still more round than that of Western or Clark's. Bill looked dark most of the time, but somewhat pale at some angles. It had a more downturned appearance compared to the bill of Western or Clark's."
