On 21 December 2020, 13 participants in 4 parties conducted the 13th New Iberia CBC. Remarkably, the species total was exactly the same as the previous two years (and was achieved with reduced participation/effort) = 124 species. Four new species were found on the count, highlighted by a "WESTERN" (Pacific-slope/Cordilleran) FLYCATCHER found and photographed by Ken Eyster and Katie Barnes. ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER, LEAST FLYCATCHER, and BELL'S VIREO were also new to the count. Other highlights included RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD (2nd count record), SOLITARY SANDPIPER (2nd count record), and PINE SISKIN (2nd count record). The group reported high counts of WOOD DUCK (82), BLUE-WINGED TEAL (130), LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER (18), BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON (13), BARRED OWL (6), TREE SWALLOW (687), SEDGE WREN (32), and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH (264). Other birds of note included CANVASBACK (1), RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD (2), R/A HUMMINGBIRD (2), BUFF-BELLIED HUMMINGBIRD (2), PURPLE FINCH (3), FOX SPARROW (1), RUSTY BLACKBIRD (11), and WILSON'S WARBLER (2).
A huge thank you to the participants: Katie Barnes, Charlotte Chehotsky, Matt Courtman, Susan Hester Edmunds, Ken Eyster, Elias Landry, Mike Musumeche, John Parker, Karen Terrell, Cathy Thomason, Mary Tutwiler, and Mike VanEtten.
