On November 13, 2010, Doug James was featured speaker at the Arkansas Audubon Society fall meeting held in Russellville. He gave a funny, illustrated powerpoint about his life in ornithology. Doug was introduced by his colleague Kim Smith who provided background on Doug’s career. Students from Arkansas Tech filmed the talk. These talks took on new poignancy with subsequent deaths of both Kim and Doug in 2018. The program is posted in 2-parts. It opens with a Shugart Red-cockaded Woodpecker Award to Larry Hedrick, key architect in Ouachita NF RCW recovery. Jack Stewart then introduces Kim Smith who provides 7-minutes on Doug’s career. Doug comes on and narrates his powerpoint. His presentation wasn’t finished when the tape ran out, but there’s plenty in those moments to take measure of his legacy. Judy Smith and Richard Stauffacher helped get these talks online where others can enjoy them.
