Subject: [CT Birds] Red-headed Woodpeckers in Ledyard
Red-headed Woodpeckers in Ledyard. Rose Hill WMA. Take Thomas road off
Mattewson Mill Rd to where pavement turns to dirt road. Park here and take
blue trail on right. In about a tenth of a mile the blue trail turns left
at gap in stonewall and an unmarked but obvious trail turns right. Follow
this unmarked trail till you see a wooded swamp on right. Still stay on
trail for another 50 to 75 yards then bushwhack towards swamp. There are
Heron nests here and 3 maybe 4 Red-headed Woodpeckers are using the area.
