Scouting for upcoming Barkhamsted Christmas bird count.
West Hill Pond area in New Hartford and Barkhamsted - 6:30-9am: 9 Common Redpolls, 4 Evening Grosbeaks, 3 White-winged Crossbills, Merlin, 2 Red-breasted Nuthatches, 3 Bufflehead, 12 Hooded Mergs, 2 Ravens, 3 grackles and the regulars.
The winter finches were all flyovers - calling and visible.
