Subject: [CT Birds] October's Pacific Golden Plover- a state first.
Several people got to see this bird, first noticed as a "late American Golden Plover", by hard-working local birder Frank Mantlik.
Its tricky identification was figured out by a few knowledgeable birders and news was put out quickly, not always the case with stealth species that are hard to identify, and enabled many people to connect the same afternoon.
It was apparent that many people were not aware of what features to look for, so I hope the following post contains info and captions that may help inform those people that may be curious why this was different from American Golden.
