us could think of the right word!) them . — when first heard outside
window, Courtney was wondering if just a robin, but then decided RECR,
brought Caleb to listen, but then felt unsure again, was it just a rodent?
Caleb said prob RECR, so Courtney went outside to look and saw a RECR-giss
bird foraging up in Douglas fir between driveways . — Raining outside right
now, which is why bird list so small for the point count. Foggy, too. —
(refilled cracked corn in concrete cinder blocks, looks like a mammal
emptied them last night, one knocked around)"

- Comments: "I was outside working, and thought I heard crossbills
overhead. I looked up and a flock of 30-50 were flying above tall trees
from north to south. They flew into a large, tall Cottonwood at the front
of our property that Jon calls one of the Grandpas. I ran and got my scope
and phone, and was able to see, although minuscule, a number of them with
the crossed bills, and get a recording. I tried viewing them from several
sides and angles. The recordings were made at about thirty feet SW of the
tree, at this location: 44.06457,-122.84684. I reached out to Caleb
Centanni (doing research on crossbills). He said that most of the calls on
the recording are excitement calls, but also said, "At the beginning there
are two bouncy, 'pwip pwip' flight calls. These are of a type 4
Crossbill...." Thank you Caleb. Very fun to have in our yard, and a new
yard bird."
